Dara of 2NE1 (my favorite Korean pop group) latest hair style reminds me of the character JP from Takeshi Koike's REDLINE.

So I drew this heavily influenced by the character designer Katsuhito Ishii.

I haven't posted anything lately because I've been working on this. These are a couple of screen shots from my 4th year CalArts film. It's a collaborative film with the amazing Tiffany Ford. I wrote, storyboarded, and directed the film. She did some character designs. There are also others involved with the project, but these are shots I completely did myself.

I saw this on Jesse Schell blog.

With stuff like Augmented Reality and 3D Television now in existence, I can't stop fantasizing about the possibilities of the future of storytelling. I mean video games are become more and more cinematic. And I often wonder how interactive will television become with the merging of the internet. And what would happen if all of these concepts combine and merge with the old Virtual Reality concept? ...Star Trek Holodeck? ;)

This is a fantastic interview with Pixar's president Ed Catmull by Martin Giles from the Economist.

There's a whole lot of great stuff in this video. But three things I got from the is:

1) The team needs to trust the process.
2) Assume that there is something that needs fixing that you just haven't recognized yet.
3) Take failure as an opportunity to do it right.

Soon I'm going to go back and actually take my own notes on the video but this Scott Berkun has some good ones.

Another thing Ed Catmull talked about in the video interview is the balance of the business and artistic cultures. And we need to pull from both of them evenly in order to stay successful (and soulful) I think keeping this kind of balance was one of the reasons why Walt Disney was so successful. Learning how to balance these two cultures is also the one of reasons why I'm taking business classes in addition to character animation class at CalArts.

Again I think this is great stuff. But I still think Bruce Lee explains all of this the best ;)

Robot Land Please Take Notes From Studio 4C.

Studio 4C produced an animated short called Honey for the website "Welcome to Tokyo". The site is built to promote Tokyo tourism with the use of puzzles and quizzes about various sites and attractions. Here is the link.

Now In 2013 Incheon, South Korea will be opening up Robot Land, a theme that features all manners of robot entertainment.

Now I don't know what the people who are creating the park have planned, but hopefully it will involve creating mythologies about the robots in the park.
Making the website a sort of game makes people want to explore these mythologies--inciting the website visitors to want to visit the theme park.

This was the March 13, 2010 "Tribute to Joe Ranft" post. Joe Ranft is the first artist I recognized as a storyboard artist. Entering CalArts I had dreams of learning the craft from him. This video was illustrated by John Musker. It's based on legendary stories about Joe Ranft. I'm glad they shared this. R.I.P. Mr. Ranft.

Janelle Monae is one of my favorite artist right now. She's fun creative,positive,and innovative. She's not afraid to push boundaries on what a black female singer is suppose to be. Check out her new video called "Tightrope" featuring Big Boi of Outkast.

But dig this. I'm looking up videos about Micheal Jackson and I run into this other incredible dancer. Her name is LADIA YATES. Turn's out she is feature in the Janelle Monae's "Tightrope" video. This lady can really...REALLY, get down!
